Clowns and Smart Phones

Hey everyone, Zachary the Stupid Inventor with a quick comic review. There weren't really any noteworthy strips, so I'll keep it short.

Strange Brew: I like the gag, but I find it strange the way they framed the panel. Why did they only show the back of the clown? It would have been easier to understand if you saw the front of the clown and the car in back. Just my opinion.
Dilbert: They always blame the engineer....

Balloons Can't Scream 'No'

This will be my last DCR post for awhile as I will be getting ready for, leaving on and be on vacation the next three weeks or so and while I will be blogging on my own site during my vacation, I don't think I will have time to sift through the Sunday comics to post. Anyway, let's go on with today's comics.

The Argyle Sweater

We'll start off with a comic that's actually slightly humorous.

Drabble
Why would you do that? Unless they are constantly harassing me, I'm not gonna call them back to find out why they called and only let the phone ring once. I know there are people out there that call the number but that she is so sure that someone is going to call back that weirds me out.

Marmaduke
Marmaduke has apparently found religion and has renounced his evil ways. But the Marmaduke we know and love will be back Monday after realizing, after "loving his neighbor", that human flesh tastes pretty darn good.

Calvin and Hobbes
I love how even after 25 years, Calvin and Hobbes remains just as relevant. I watched a "Saturday Night Live" Best of David Spade the other day and in order to get an interview with Sean Penn, Spade had to get a tattoo and he got Calvin and remarked how in 15 years his tattoo will be of a forgotten comic strip character. How wrong he was.

Nancy
Sluggo, an original Forever Alone.

Head In The Clouds

I mentioned I would be away, and I am. I am posting this in advance. If I did it right, you're seeing this on Tuesday. If not, I am either talking to myself or wondering what the hell this is doing up there today.

Whatever.

Here's a quick synchronicity to-fer.

Cul de Sac, June 19, 2011

Richard Thompson won the Reuben Award for Cul de Sac last month. It was well-deserved.

Frazz, June 19 2011

Frazz didn't win any awards this year. According to its wikipedia entry it has previously won the "2003 and 2005 Wilbur Award for Promoting Ethics and Positive Values." I am not familiar with the awards, but I am familiar with Frazz's holier-than-thou attitude and am sure they were well-deserved also.

Both strips are about cloud watching.

Short and Sweet

It's Father's Day and you can barely tell it from today's comics. It is also Garfield's 33rd birthday today so he should really be dying soon and then Jon can get another cat that's a kitten that looks like Garfield and that soon becomes possessed by Garfield's spirit thus ensuring the strip goes on forever. Here's the link to today's Garfield strip and you can just imagine that Heathcliff is Garfield today.

Heathcliff

Fort Knox
Forget for moment that Grandma actually does need something and this strip is kind of mean. "Oh, thanks for calling Grandma. What do you need?" is kind of rude. And I'm not a fan of this strip but all the kids in do seem rather douchey from what I've read.

The Born Loser
"So when I take a bite, dial 9-1 then when I finish the sandwich, dial 1 again."

Fralp!

Hey everyone, Zachary the Stupid Inventor here with today's comic review. Not much to review today, although there are some surprises. Let's begin, shall we?

The Argyle Sweater: This is an old gag that's been around for ages, the reason why I posted the panel, is because I find it interesting that the cartoonist tried to do the panel without showing any poop at all. I think he fails miserably, but what do you think?

Pickles: This comic is consistently good, but the reason why I'm posting it is because the world fralp is awesome!

B.C.: This strip is actually good! And the way it's drawn (the bushes and the deer) make it look like a totally different strip from B.C., how strange.

The Wizard of ID: This is the basic setup for 99% of crossover strips (we're lost, oh hi other comic strip character!) but I love crossovers so I posted it.

That's it for me, until next time!
Zach

Sorry, I am still alive

Yes, that title reads at least 2 ways. The past few weeks have been hell, and I am going away for the next 2 weeks.

Yesterday we had some vintage/present day synchronicity again.

BC, June 13, 2011

Vintage Mutt & Jeff June 13, 2011

I wonder if the editor that selects the vintage strips is somehow influenced by the new ones? I thought the Mutt strip was pretty funny, funnier than BC at least.

Brewster Rockit June 14, 2011

I love Brewster for giving me something good to pick when I am busy. Always reliable.

Dick Tracy, June 14, 2011

Damn, this strip is really good. Check out that first panel! The silhouette makes Doubleup's death blow so much more powerful.

As some of the commenters over on gocomics.com said, this particular strip is better in black and white. Better in black and white.

The 'B' Grandparents Are Here

It's been pretty dead here lately. I didn't realize just how dead until today rolled around and I noticed the last post was mine from last Sunday. Well, I only have a few comics for today but let's get started.

Peanuts
I never liked Lucy and Linus' blanket-hating grandmother. Where are Linus' parents in this to explain that this is how they are raising their son? Maybe to keep the peace they just keep quiet about it and just hope that she passes away sooner rather than later.

La Cucaracha
Sadly, jokes about Superman's citizenship will become pointless when the DC relaunch begins in September.

Did I say "sadly"? I meant "gladly".

Born Loser
Reruns of the news? I find that a bit...made up. And why does Brutus watch the episodes again? He does realize that some cable networks have new shows during the summer, right? TNT, USA, AMC have a slew of shows on that air just during the summer. I mean, Breaking Bad is coming returning in July!!

Reign of the Captain Victoriouses

It's another Sunday so let's start this thing.

Close to Home 6/4/11
But those burros look so happy to be contributing to the safety of the people of New York.

Cornered 6/4/11
On the original strip received with our comics today, the pedals were moving and so was the bed. It was almost as creepy as For Better of For Worse's blinking eyes on their official site.

Ink Pen 6/5/11
Ink Pen, like Brewster Rockit, is one of those off-the-wall strips that always seem to be consistently funny.

Love Is... 6/4/11
The two kids in Love Is... are terrible parents. Sometimes they have a child, sometimes they don't. Maybe they run a daycare and "borrow" other people's children to make it look like they have their own kids because they cannot have any of their own. If that's the case then today's strip is really sad.

Born Loser 6/5/11
So I don't like the new format for The Born Loser now that it's on GoComics. I find it odd that Gladys doesn't know who to root for but I am curious about Brutus' twin in the seat in front of them.

And since our Brutus is the one with facial hair, that makes him the evil one.

Laundry Day and Peanut Butter

Hey everyone, Zachary the Stupid Inventor here with today's comic review. There wasn't much to review, but I would be remiss not to mention that today marks the first day of comics.com merging with gocomics.com, which is definitely an interesting move and who knows what that will mean for the comics industry's future, especially online.

The Argyle Sweater: Funny strip! Today also happens to be Marilyn Monroe's birthday... I wonder if that was done on purpose or not.

Baldo: I love the visuals of this strip. Really makes the gag work.

Anyways that's it for me, until next time!
