Cow belts and smashed thumbs

Happy Wednesday, everyone! Time for some more comics review. Also, after several weeks of laziness, I've updated my webcomic. Check it out if you like hedgehogs, are unemployed, or are just bored and aimlessly surfing the web.

Adam@Home
Adam@Home
I always find it jarring when I see jokes about comics or cartoonists in the funny pages. The author is being a bit too self-referencial for my tastes. If you want to have an autobiographical strip, just go all out and do it. Adam doesn't appear to be in the comics business, so it's a bit weird for him to revere Calvin and Hobbes this much.

The Argyle Sweater
The Argyle Sweater
The gag is mildly amusing. But leather is made from actual cow skin. I don't think a belt made from shaved cow hair would work very well.

Boomerangs
Boomerangs
The mom here may be right, but shoving a book in your daughter's face and saying, "See? This is what's wrong with you!" doesn't seem very respectful. Generally, it's a bad idea to bring up transference during an argument. I tried with my girlfriend one time and... well, let's just say a smashed thumb would have been a better outcome.

The Norm, 8/30/11
The Norm
Ug. This strip is the equivalent of one those annoying television recap episodes. If a storyline needs this much infographics then perhaps it's a bit too complicated for a daily comic.

The Other Coast
The Other Coast
This gag is a rip-off of Monty Python.

Ziggy
Ziggy
Look who's talking, barkeep! Though this being the Ziggy universe, that guy probably just doesn't like Ziggy and quickly made up some crap to keep him out.

Sunday 28 August - The Good....and the Sad

Ugh. It's Matt here. As an unabashed Arsenal fan in the English Premier League, it was an incredibly poor performance I had to endure today during their match with Manchester United. The entire "Sad" portion of my post should be spent to their porous defense and their unimaginative offense, but I will, instead, lift up my spirits by sharing some thoughts with you on the Sunday comics....

The Good

Off the Mark

Off The Mark

This is one where it first glance, it seemed just ok. But then staring at the drawings of the thumbs it makes the comic more awesome. Love them with the cannons and tanks and bayonettes. Shows how the picture can make an ok joke even better.

Pears before Swine

Pearls Before Swine

Another great sight gag in the 2nd panel to the end. Love the boy and the second "tooooot". Well done.

Argyle Sweater

The Argyle Sweater

Three things I love about this strip : (1) The Deja Vu scene is classic; love the point he's making just in that panel. (2) The final panel, though not laugh hysterically funny, is a good payoff. (3) How many people had to Google "Tunguska" to find out what the second panel means? Well played.

The Sad

Pluggers

Pluggers

Ha, ha. This if funny because Pluggers have no friends. I can't believe TWO people took credit for this one. Yikes!

Ziggy

Ziggy

Ha ha. This is funny because Ziggy is too stupid to open the front door; or is he too stupid to put his head ABOVE the water line to breathe. Ugh.

My Charlie Brown Vase!

When DC announced their relaunch a few months ago, people quickly noted that the Justice Society of America were nowhere to be seen and that the JSA are not even a part of the new universe. Well, DC just announced that the JSA will be returning. Here's the story from iFanboy.

The JSA is my favorite superhero team so I welcome their return. Heroes from that era were so original and unique. Green Lantern, Hourman and Mister Terrific were my favorite.

All right, let's get on with today's comics.

Crankshaft
Can't anything ever go right in the Funkyverse? I swear to god there is more pain and hurt--both emotional and physical--in this universe than any other universe in existence. And that includes Universe-471L "The Bully Universe".

by Chuck Asay and Zits
In a roundabout way, possibly. Give poor people more money and they will spend more which helps boost the economy which creates a demand for products leading companies to possibly to begin hiring again....
What the hell, Jeremy! Not yet having the privilage of having a teenager in the house I have to wonder do they really just destroy things? I certainly hope not because I don't have the tools (re: chains) to deal with them.

Hi & Lois
You better do as Thurston says Hi or else you will wind up at the bottom of that water hazard behind you.

The New Adventures of Queen Victoria
Dear Pab Sungenis, In order for a citation to be valid on Wikipedia, the source must be a third-party source so something like a newspaper article about you that says you are from Vineland. You cannot be your own citation. In fact, I noticed that someone added this comic strip to the Vineland article as the citation which doesn't actually verify that you are from Vineland. Also, I am questioning the validity of you actually being included in the "Notable People" section especially since you yourself do not have an article. Sincerely, Brian - Wikipedia Editor since 2006.

Child Abuse and Sodomy Are Now Funny

Sorry I missed last week. I completely forgot about it then by the time I remembered I was like "what's the point?" but here are some strips for today. And you will get some strips tomorrow as well. Also, check out my site.

Adam @ Home
Ha! It's funny because Adam's about to have a gloved finger shoved up his butt.

Heathcliff
Is it just me or does anyone else think Heathcliff is getting really gross?

Fort Knox
Ha! It's funny because she's going to backhand her son.

The Doozies
Usually The Doozies are good for a chuckle. Good. Not great. But this one...this one is stretching it.

Frog Applause
You get to "cut and paste" and "photoshop" "comic" strips for living Person Who Does Frog Applause. You don't get to complain about your job.

Love Is...
So is she going to use his intestines as the spaghetti and his...well, you know...as the meatballs? "Love is...Cannibalism."

Not your mother's lemonade stand.

Hello, Peter here again, bringing you comics review for Wednesday, August 24, which happens to be my mother's birthday. Happy Birthday, Mom!

Will I manage to keep my comments today mom-appropriate instead of the usual crassness? Let's find out!

Andy Capp
Andy Capp
Is the banker supposed to look like Hitler?

Agnes
Agnes
Whoa, $15.00? That's a tad overpriced. A latte-lemondade blend is rather disgusting, though not as disgusting as...

Birdbrains
Birdbrains
The concurrence of themes in the comics is always a curious phenomenon. Two strips featuring lemonade stands is not itself unusual (it's a pretty common setup in the summertime), but Agnes and Birdbrains take the age-old children's moneymaker to sickening new levels. At least Dorkins' waste water is more reasonably priced than Agnes' concoction.

Brewster Rockit
Brewster Rockit
That first panel summarizes Rise of the Planet of the Apes quite nicely. I don't have anything bad to say about this strip. Sometimes it's nice to share the consistently funny Brewster Rockit. Plus, I like donuts—not to eat, but as symbolism-rich pieces of Americana. Yeah, I'm weird.

Real Life Adventures
Real Life Adventures
I thought making awkward, lame jokes was part of being a normal dad.

Barney and Clyde
Barney & Clyde
Uh.. camouflage comes in different varieties now. It seems unlikely that these guys would be seeing two soldiers wearing that particular pattern. Maybe those are civilians in costume, maybe this strip takes place in another time or place, or maybe this is just a lame setup by a lazy cartoonist.

Momma
Momma
Uh.. job listings are almost exclusively online now. I should know. Sigh.

Okay, I've made it through a whole post without cussing. Though I did feature a strip that depicted the aftermath of drinking human waste, so I guess my efforts to be mom-freindly today were a wash. Oh well.

Monday Means Meekrat

It's Monday, and Monday means Meekrat!

Last Kiss

The only way the Hulk wouldn't pass a drug test would be if that drug test tested for gamma radiation.

Drabble
I've never been to an amusement park with single rider lines, but it just seems like a terrible idea that people would continually take advantage of.

The Doozies
Today was sort of slim pickings, but I didn't want to just put two things up here and be done with this. So yeah, this Doozie guy is sort of a punk if a little bird like that can strong-arm his camera away.

The good.....and the sad.

Sorry for the late post on a Sunday. Just returned from Orlando and had a great time at Walt Disney World. On to the Sunday funnies.....

The Good

Flying McCoys

The Flying McCoys

In my first entry, I mentioned I am a sucker for good sports comics as they are few and far between. I just love the "Good pillage" they are all saying. Fun.

By the way, I couldn't find another single comic I liked today. Rough Sunday. Must be summer.

The Sad

F Minus

F Minus

If anyone out there can do so, please explain it to me. I mean, I get that cats sit on the car.....and that people need to go to work...and that starting a car requires starting an engine.....but what, on God's green Earth, makes this remotely interesting? My apologies if I am just too dense for this comic strip.

Frank and Ernest

Frank & Ernest

Ummmm.....it's clear from the picture what the movie is about. So, did you not see the picture before going into the theater (which is possible, as it is after the exit) or, can you just not see? In which case, going to the cinema makes no sense. This gag would be MUCH better without the picture, IMHO.

Double Standards and Parental Cruelty

Just a few nickpicks here and there today. I didnt really see anything too awful or too good.

Ah double standards. If this was the women complaing the joke would just be that she is a single parent. I doubt they could fit in a threat for divorce.

I dont even care about the lame joke, I'm excited for the Minecraft reference.
